The sea around Sørøya provides a natural habitat to and is populated by large amounts of particularly large fish; such as cod, halibut, coalfish and redfish. - A couple of years ago a German fisherman caught a cod with a weight of 47kg, a world record for angling at sea that still stands! YOUTH TRIP PART II - Redfish & Coalfish + Bonus 156cm halibut! Friday the boys were out on their own, and managed to bag several wolffish over 5kg, and 2 nice plaice, the biggest one weighing 2.45kg! Good job lads!🙌 Come Saturday and the lads wanted to try out some redfish! Ivar and Kristian had never caught redfish, and Markus PB needed an upgrade! The whole day was pretty slow except one very nice 5.5kg redfish for Kristian, and some other smaller fish. Going into the last hours of the day we moved a little bit further to check if the bite was different somewhere else, and only 30 minutes later we had a box full of fish between 1,5 - 3 kilos! Sunday was their last fishing day, and we wanted to try out for some coalfish. We drove out to a spot not too far away and had a blast fishing for the Norwegian torpedos, with two fish passing the 10kg mark and as many as you wanted between 6 and 8 kilos🔥 On our way back we had one last try for halibut, and my thoughts went to Markus, who were left out on the super weird double drill on the same fish the other day... We stopped on a spot that have given loads of nice halibut this year, so my hopes were up. 30 seconds after we had dropped down, a halibut had taken Markus bait. We could tell from the fight that this fish was bigger than his 112 centimeter one. A good 10 minutes and 2 hefty runs later, a super nice 123 centimeter halibut was secured! The lads were stoked and almost ready to go home, but I had seen a mark on the sonar and reckoned we should give it one more shot... 30 seconds after we had dropped down, a halibut had taken Markus bait, AGAIN... We could tell this one was even bigger then the one we had just gotten, and after a couple of headshakes and a massive run, it was pretty obvious that it was a big fish! 40 minutes and SIX runs to the bottom with FULL DRAG was the medicine for this one. I have never experienced such strength from a halibut measuring "only" 156 centimeter. A fight of a lifetime and another personal best for Markus! Congrats again!🙏 Both of the halibuts was of course released! #noreleasenoglory Thanks a lot to the young lads for making this trip a lot of fun! YOUTH TRIP PART I - Halibut and Seawolf Session Last week we arranged our very first youth-trip here on Sørøya! It´s Tuesday and our three lucky lads Markus, Ivar & Kristian from Karmøy was rigged and ready for their first trip here on Sørøya. We went out to one of the shallow areas just around the camp and It didn´t take many minutes before Kristians rod had a bite, and a good 5 minutes later Kristians very first halibut was landed and measured to 98 centimeter. Very nice halibut as a debute!👊 After a couple of hours with little action, it was Markus turn to catch a halibut, which made it his species number 121 on rod and reel in Norway! Congratulations with an massive achivement! The halibut measured 112 centimeter, and made a beautiful first halibut for the prodigy!🔥 After some more hours with a couple more halibuts and a handfull of seawolfes we decided to go home. Ivar was the only one who didn´t catch a halibut the first day, but the next day would change this... Wednesday around 10 we were situated on one of my favourite spots. We had a couple of bites the first hour, but nothing special. Hans Kristian pitched out a green sandeel, and got hooked up immediately with a really nice first run! The other lads insisted that Hans should land this fish himself, and so he did. A nice 135 centimeter halibut was landed after about 10 minutes! We fished some more, and about one hour things started to get real weird... First we had a good contact on Kristians rod before it got real quiet. After about 2 minutes there was a contact on Ivars rod, with exceptionally similar movements on Kristians rod. It started to run exactly the same time, and they tightened the drag exactly the same time. It didn´t take long before we figured what was going on... A halibut had taken both of the baits, and we could tell that the halibut was BIG from all the headshakes... A solid 20 minute fight on 10-15 meter, and beautiful fish of 185 centimeter was landed! Congratulations to both of the anglers! After a couple more hours with some wolffish, we went back to harbour. Finally a full report of Bilals MONSTER 209CM HALIBUT 0600 Tuesday morning my alarm rang. The midnightsun had already warmed up the air to around 10-15 degrees. The weather gods was definitely with us, so it was time for the fishing gods to step up! 5 of our boats included me and our other guide on Big Fish Adventure Hans and a bunch of swedes visiting Hasfjord Villmarksopplevelser had planed a longer trip together with a neighbouring camp. On our way there we were talking about how much fun it would have been to after all this time, FINALLY break the 200cm mark... The fishing started off pretty good, with some nice halibuts landed within the first 30 minutes. One stunning 168cm halibut landed by the neighbours, and a good 145cm halibut landed in one of our boats. Some really nice cod between 10-15 kilo, some pushing the 20 mark, and some more halibuts spanning between 80-115 centimeter was caught, before a longer drought without any big flat ones... After a couple of hours were we only were "bothered" with cod up to 15kg, something bigger finally hooked up in our boat, on both of our rods! After a good fight, an athletic 118cm halibut on Hans´rod and a nice 156cm PIG on my rod was secured and ready for some pictures. We tried some more for the halibuts, but they weren´t really biting a lot at the spot we were, so we decided to move a new spot, where we stumbled into a bunch of coalfish ranging from 5-8kg! Good fun with some lighter tackle! When we were done playing with the coalies, we decided to pick up the halibut fishing again. While I fished for some more bait, Hans pulled up a stunning POLLOCK out of his pocket, pushing the 5kg mark! A really unusal catch this far north! Some more hours for halibut had passed, and on the other boats in our entourage some nice halibuts between 120-140 centimeter had been landed. The time is starting to run out, and we were satisfied with our day really, but wanted to try one more drift for 10 minutes more before we were heading home... We had loads of contacts on shads and bait, with one fish taking the bait several times and spitting it, and two nice fish following up on the shads. All of a sudden it got heavy on my rod... REALLY fucking heavy... At one point, we thought we were stuck on the bottom. We thought that the fish that I had on had swam into som seagrass or something untill we saw it on the sonar... This was with 100% guarantee a monster of a fish! 30 good nerve wrecking and intense minutes after the bite, Hans and the halibut hook was ready to secure the beast that we already estimated over 2m. The halibut hook was placed good, and the beast RAMPAGED on the surface. I went over to help Hans securing this massive thing and we managed to get the hook completely through. After letting out the biggest scream ever, and a couple of hugs, I realised that I had hurt my finger pretty bad. Full of adrenalin, I jumped into the water with the massive halibut after measuring it to 209 CENTIMETERS! Back in the boat after releasing the queen of the seas back to her elements, I got some medical attention from one of the swedes Pier,(Thanks again bro!) ending with 5 stitches at the hospital when we came back home. All in all, a fantastic day with many good cods between 15-20kg, some good coalies, a pollock and some STUNNING halibuts with the top ranking 209, 168, 156, 145, 138, 130, 128 and 122 centimeter, with even more smaller ones landed in our entourage! This day, me and Hans could go out alone in the boat after 3 weeks with guiding. Last time it was a 193cm halibut on 17 year old Pavels rod in the guide boat. This time it was my 209cm. Monster halibut landed, measuring 209cm!🔥 The guides from Big Fish Adventure and a bunch of friends from Hasfjord Villmarksopplevelser went on a trip, and boy did that go well! After hundreds of hours, my time to drill a 2m+ halibut had finally come. After a good 30 minute fight, the beast was finally landed. Mixed conditions and picky halibuts🌊 Yesterday, the guys from UK and I went out to check out the halibut action. With wind and current going each direction, and picky halibuts just spitting the bait, fishing was a little bit more difficult than anticipated, but we managed to get a couple of halibut either way, with a top fish of 113 centimeter. Both fish were released, even tho they´re ideal size for food. RESPECT.🙏 Today they´re out fishing with Hans Kristian for cod and coalfish, and the rumours says they have caught some nice fish, with some cod pushing the 20kg mark! Well done lads! The last days have been pretty hot, with beautiful trophies landed🔥 Monday we went out with our Czech group for some serious cod and coalfish action! For two full hours we had one continuous drift with fish under the boat all the time. Many nice cod up to 18kg, and some coalfish up to 5kg! All in all, a really nice day! Tuesday night, the girl trip that we are piloting this year kicked off, and what a start! 9 halibut landed with 153, 141 and 124 centimeter top fish! Many nice cod were also landed. LOADS over 10kg and 4 cods over the 20kg mark, with a 23kg at the top! To top it all of, we caught two lings on 30 meters, one around 6kg and the other pushing the 10kg mark! Monster 193 centimeter halibut landed in a super heavy sesh!🌊💨💦 Despite big winds, rain, hail and sun all at once, our guides took out our Czech group for some halibut fishing. The whole day was pretty slow in general, with 3 halibuts landed in a 15-minute before shit hit the fan, hard af... For 17-year old Pavel, this day will not be forgotten. After a 25-minute fight with some BIG pulling, the monster finaly came up, and the SUPER FAT 193cm BEAST was finally secured!🙏 The Queen got measured and safely released after some quick photos! #noreleasenoglory Congrats to Pavel for his fish of a lifetime! Despite having pretty bad weather with winds up to 15 m/s the last couple of days, our guest have caught some nice fish! Shitty Redfish-sesh turning into a nasty hali-sesh with two beautiful halis, measuring 156 and 140 centimeter!🔥 My good friend Daniel arrived last night for some days fishing with Hans Kristian and I. Rigged and ready, we just couldn´t resist anymore! Our plan was to go for redfish. Arriving at the spot, we quickly found out that the conditions were not good enough to fish that spot, so we moved in for some halibut. This I can assure you, was the right decision... All of a sudden Daniels reel was screaming, the bait had been taken by a good size halibut! After a good fight with several runs, we secured the beast and kept it in the water, ensuring the halibuts safety was maintained🙏 20 minutes after the first fish was released, another halibut took Daniels bait. This time, a 140cm halibut. Perfect end to a slow night!
